but seeing all of my friends start a new chapter of their lives had left me feeling… feelings. I hated feelings.
I refused to abandon this house the way I’d been left behind. Difficult. Unlovable. Not worth the time.
“He’s just misunderstood,” I said, a touch of defensiveness in my tone I didn’t quite understand. The cat and I were not friends. “Aren’t we all?”

got a little sidetracked when You Know Who arrived.” “Her name is Inessa, not Voldemort,”
Like a Saint Bernard puppy on cocaine, whose tail would randomly burst into flames and who would suddenly disappear and then reappear stuck in a cabinet or on the roof or upside down in a tree. In fact, I remember this one hat in particular that I swear he chewed the lace off of on one visit.”
“Yes, that’s it. I spend my days staring out my office window, watching your every move, just hoping I can nail you.” Her eyes widened and I realized my error, but tried to stop my own face from reacting. The flush from creeping up my neck at the images those words conjured in my mind. I cleared my throat and tried again. “Hoping I can catch you.”
“Deadlights Cove is my home,”
“Eyes on me, hellcat.”
“Or I’ll spin you around right here in this bell tower, rip this sad excuse for pajamas from your body, and fuck you until you’re screaming louder than that damn bell.”
Thank you for everything. For making me feel alive.”
This town — these people — were worth protecting and I’d do anything in my power to keep them safe and happy.
Take up space. Be passionate. Be loud.”
And of all people, she was the one who’d come. With her Tardis fanny pack and a stadium-sized amount of confidence in herself and this ridiculous plan that she should not have been carrying, and yet, she was.
“You are so easy to love, Devanna, just as you are. Your intelligence. Your honesty. Your bravery. Your undying devotion to those you give your heart to. You’re extraordinary in every possible way, shining so bright even when you try to hide yourself away.”
“It’s okay to let other people in.” Mo brushed my hair back from my face, but never let go of her grip on me. “You have enough love to go around. And those of us that are lucky enough to be on the receiving end of it understand that we are the lucky ones. I’m positive that Nimue, Blaze, Lysander, Selene, even Petra would tell you the same.”
You are exactly where you were meant to be, in this life, in this town, in this church. This is only the beginning for you, and I am so happy I get to be here to see your story unfold.”
“You think I need leather and chains to restrain you? Scarves to blind you?” My voice dropping to a whisper, I said, “You have no idea how many times I’ve thought about bending you to my will. Punishing you for that bratty behavior. Making you submit to me.”
“You are my weakness in so many ways,”
“Tell me you trust me. Tell me you’re mine, not just for tonight but forever. It’s all or nothing, Devanna.”
“Don’t break me,” I whispered, hating how fragile I sounded. He kissed me softly, once, then again. “I wouldn’t dream of it.” “I’m yours.” And just like that, I gave in. Dove headfirst into the face of my fears. The fear of being alone forever, of being abandoned again was the one thing that held me back, but I trusted Orion. He’d take the protection of my heart as seriously as he took everything.
This was it. He was where I belonged.
“Hilarious. Now, spill it. I figured once you two had scratched the itch, buttered each other’s biscuits, did some squats in the cucumber patch, rode the bony express, that’d be it. One and done, so to speak. But this doesn’t feel like…” “Jesus, Blaze,” Dev said, squinting in his direction. “Where do you even come up with this shit?” “I can keep going.” Blaze winked. “Jammed the clam. Stuffin’ the muff—”
I wish you could see yourself through the eyes of those who love you.

“The real question is, do you want to be a good boy, or just my fuck toy?”

“Eva Watford streaked through town earlier, tits bouncing as she sprinted into the ocean. I suddenly understand the term ‘knockers’ because those things were swinging harder than Rocky Balboa.

Light shone from the windows I’d replaced all those weeks ago when Devanna had passed out in the cemetery, exhausted from working so hard to refinish the exterior.
Blaze was the only true brother I’d ever had, and the only one that mattered.
now, because you’re worth it. Because you shine brighter than anyone I’ve ever met. Because my world is dull without you in it and I can’t bear the thought of going back to a life without you at my side.”
