“Do your little lightning trick again, sweetheart,” she said, kissing me on the cheek. “And Blaze will blast him with his own cursed magic at the same time. Finish him.”
“Did you — did you rob a grave?”
“Yes, dear, now if you wouldn’t mind?” Mo gestured to the mound of dirt. “Be a gentleman and fix it for me. We’re all a little worn out here.”
Fortunately, Devanna seems to have an extraordinary well of power these days” — Mo shot me a knowing look, clearly already aware of what I’d done, and I pressed my lips together, willing her not to reveal anything to Dev.
“Nergal is dead?” I asked, needing to hear the words aloud. To know it was well and truly over.
Dev placed her hands on either side of my face, dark eyes focused on mine. “Yeah baby. He’s gone.” She smiled. “I’m fine. We’re good. Go do what you’re best at and look after everyone. Put this town back together.”
“Great, so, either I keep drinking your blood forever so you don’t drain yourself into oblivion, or we essentially have to get married. Excellent solutions, Orion. Really genius plan there.”
Stupid freakin’ angels.
“I’m not sorry. And I don’t want to leave. In fact, I’d love to stay for as long as you’ll let me.”
“I’ll always want to protect you, to keep you safe in any way I can, even though I know how little you need me, how capable you are on your own. I can’t change that part of me, so don’t ask me to.”
You give people passion, kindness, truth they can count on — believe me, that matters way more in the end.”
“But the choice is yours now. I’ll go if you tell me to, and we’ll figure… something out, I don’t know.” I shrugged, pinching the bridge of my nose.
“Open the damn doors, gentlemen. It’s time for a new world order.”
“Are we in a relationship?” What? How could she ask that? “Yes.” Shit, I hoped that was the right answer — “Good.” Thank fuck.
“Are you asking me to move in with you, hellcat?” Dev pushed my hand away, then rose up onto her knees to throw one leg over my hips, straddling me. “Seems fitting, doesn’t it? Every church needs an angel.”
