“Good enough for Hannah McIntyre?” The sheriff looked surprised for a moment and then let out a bark of mild amusement. “What are you asking me, son?” “Are you going to arrest me if you see me with her?” “Why would I do that? You planning on hurting her in some way?” “Never.”

“You’re going to belong to me, heart, body, and soul, and I’ll touch you when and how I want, and you’ll let me, won’t you?”

“Why?” “Because . . . because I trust you.” “Because you trust me and you know how good it’ll be, don’t you?” She nodded her head, her gaze glued to his. “Yes,” she whispered. His eyes dropped to her mouth. “And it’ll be good, I swear to God. It’ll always be good between us. Don’t make the mistake of thinking it would be the same with someone else . . . because it wouldn’t be.” “No, I know that.”

“Hannah, I’m warning you, and you better listen up and listen good. You’re mine. Every sweet little inch, understand me? You belong to me, and no matter what kind of fight we had . . . while you’re gone you best remember that you belong to me. And just so you’ll know, just so we’re on the same page about this and you don’t have any doubts in your head . . . I’m going to be here waiting for you when you get back, because I’m yours and nobody else’s. Is that clear enough for you? We’re together and if you don’t remember that then there will be hell to pay.”

“You’re mine. I’ve waited and waited and waited for you to grow up so that I could have this. Now you belong to me, just me. You understand?”

He pushed against her. She was his. He pulled out and pumped into her. She was finally his. He repeated the motion, five, six, seven times and spilled into her with a groan of satisfaction and a feeling of ferocious possession that he knew in that moment would never go away. She was his. ****

“Don’t think I’ll ever let you go, because I won’t.” Her arms wrapped around his head. “I know you won’t. I don’t want you to.” “I want you to marry me. I don’t want to take any chances with losing you.”
