Who's Your Father?: Returning to the Love of the Biblical God

In 1 Peter 5:10, we are given the glorious promise that “the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.” Once again, God is telling us that he himself will establish us and perfect us—this to his eternal glory! It is God who will sustain us to the end (1 Corinthians 1:8, see also Romans 8:28–30, 37–39). Why would we not want to embrace this fact and live enthusiastically and joyfully with wonderful confidence in the affectionate purpose of the true God of the Bible, a sovereign God who is our own loving Father? Our Father’s complete preeminence over his entire creation and his promises to establish us and perfect us should be our source of constant delight. As we see in the first verse of Psalm 97: “The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice!”
