The mutation that causes Huntington’s Disease occurs on a single gene. Every person has two copies of every gene, one from each parent. If a disease is “autosomal recessive,” that means you need two copies of the gene in order to be affected. If the disease is “autosomal dominant,” however, that means you need only one abnormal copy.
