At home, she relied so much on the company of her mother and sister, the three of them wound together in their own cocoon, that she never quite made space for anyone else. Omar had shown her how nice it could be, talking and laughing with someone new. He came across as mild most of the time, but there was a rumbling beneath the surface that she recognized.
