Filburn, in which the Court ruled that the Commerce Clause gives Congress the authority to impose quotas on the amount of wheat a farmer can grow on his own land, even if he’s only growing the wheat for his own use.11 The Court’s rationale was that the wheat the farmer grows for himself is wheat he isn’t purchasing on the market, thus affecting interstate commerce.
