“I’ve waited my entire lifetime for Morgan,” I said simply. “I’ll go after her even if she doesn’t want me. Even if she runs in the opposite direction. I’ll follow her to the ends of Aercanum, and I’ll never stop.”
“Shattered or whole. Kneeling or standing. I’ll get to her, and I won’t ever leave. This time, I’ll make her understand what we are, together. And if anyone dares to hurt her, I’ll burn them to the ground without a second thought.”
“Guinevere needs you,” I said firmly. “Will you freeze or will you fight for her?”
“I couldn’t stand the thought of you going off with him. Of him touching you.”
“It was fucking torture, Morgan. But it was your body. Your life. You had the right to do what you pleased, and I had to tell myself that.”
“And if giving you part of me—or hell, if giving you all of me would keep you in this world, then that’s what I was prepared to do.
“I know you would burn the world to the ground and lay it at my feet if I told you it would make me happy.”
Did you really think in a million years and a million lifetimes that I’d ever be able to stay away?”
“There has never been anything dull about you,” I said with conviction.
“You can kill me, but my soul will come back and find yours.”
Let the world go up in flames around us. Let her brother sweep the world with his war. I’d let all of Aercanum burn before anything harmed her.
“You can tell me anything, Morgan. You know that. But you can also tell me nothing at all. You don’t owe me all your secrets. I only want the ones you choose to give.”
