There’s nothing anyone could do to make this loss hurt any less. My best friend would never return. My video gaming partner. My protector. The man of the house. He was supposed to walk me down the aisle when I got married.
“I respect Paul. I respect your family. And I can't. The more I get to know you, the more I know you’ll want more...and I can't give you more. This was a mistake.” He rambles. “I’m not a relationship guy. I don't date. I can't offer you anything more than sex. My job comes first, and that's all I've ever known. I won't change that.”
Was I wanting to have a one-night stand with her? Definitely, when I first met her at the bar. There’s no denying how mesmerizing she is.
I realize everything is different. I just found out she’s Paul's sister...and how amazing of a person she is. I’ll feel like a total asshole if I just fuck and ghost her.
“Promise me something, guys.”
“If anything happens to me, please look after my mother and sister. Make sure they're always good and safe. That’s my job right now. I’m the only man in that house. My dad left us when we were young, and they only have me to count on. Promise me, you’ll look after them if I die.”
In a world full of pain and unforgiving people, I want to be a part of the good. I genuinely believe you can significantly impact someone's life just by smiling at them.
“I’m calling the military police. You have to file a police report.”
“Then you're coming to my room. I’ll have the lower enlisted clean this up for you.”
I shake my head. “No, it’s okay. I’ll be f—" Danny cuts me off, grabbing my chin and tilting me upwards to face him with his fingers. “I’m not asking. I’m telling you.”
“Ari. Go. Home. I can’t protect you here, and on top of that, I’m leaving. I won’t be here if that person comes looking for you again. Look what just fucking happened to your room. Why can’t you trust me? Listen to me." “I don’t need your protection. I’m staying. Why do you even care?”
“Because I made a promise.” I flinch. “What’re you talking about? What promise?”
“I hate you.” My heart drops, and my eyebrows narrow. I'm confused and thrown off by his words. It came out of nowhere. “What? Why do you hate me? What have I done to you?” “Exist.” Ouch.
“Your existence alone brings me to my knees, and I hate you for that. I hate that you’ve invaded every part of my mind. Before you, I was a simple man. Work, train, sleep, eat, repeat. I didn’t have to fucking worry about anybody else. I hate that ever since I’ve tasted you, all I want to do is devour the rest of you. I hate that you’re Paul’s sister because it makes it even more fucked up to want you.”
“Most of all, I fucking hate that I don’t hate you.”
“You’re so fucking confusing! You make me feel things that I never thought were possible. Then you’re making me feel horrible…for what? Working at this hospital as a nurse? I won’t apologize for trying to do something to honor Paul. You become this asshole every time I’m near!”
“Once you pull down those pants, my cock will be the first and only that will ever be inside of you. Do you understand that, Ari? If I find out any other man tries to take what’s mine, he’ll wish he hadn’t.”
“I’ve sent way too many souls to hell. I wouldn’t hesitate to send another if they even look at what's mine.”
“Kane asked me out on a date, and I said yes,”
He grabs the back of my head, palming it, and the next thing I know, he’s pushing me up against the wall hard enough that it makes a loud thud when my body collides with it. Before I can react and question Danny, he grabs my legs, throwing me upwards, so I'm now straddling him against the wall. I cross my legs around his waist, securing myself. “Cancel it. You are mine to take.”
Something catches my attention, interrupting my trance, and I’m in awe. I watch a bright shooting star fly by and smile.
“So breathtaking,”
“You are.” Danny’s voice almost makes my ass drop to the floor, startling me.
“I have my ways, Ari. There’s nowhere you could go where I won’t find you.”
She makes being home so worth it. Just being close to her makes everything in my fucked up world better. She truly is the best thing that could have ever happened to me. I love her sweet, innocent soul. Her heart is so pure.
knew she was different. She's my little angel that I like to break and please the way I want…the way she begs me to.
“Don’t let me stop you. I want to watch. I can get off just by watching you undress.”
“But even if you choose to leave, you will always be mine. Even if you decide to run, your soul is trapped within me, and I’m never giving it back.”
“I choose you. I don’t care about anything else.” I respond, looking into the eyes I love so much.
“Don’t question my loyalty to you. No one has ever come close to the woman that you are. I’m not a liar. I’ve always been honest with you. I’ve been brutally blunt with every single girl before you with what I want and who I am. I never promised them anything but Ari… I promise you, you won’t ever have to worry about me being faithful to you.”
The lamp reveals Danny throwing on clothes. He starts with his boxers and then his jeans. “What are you doing? Where are you going?” “I’m going to fucking kill him.” I shake my head, my eyes bulging. “No, Danny! The cops are already on it. I’ve reported it. The military police are already looking for him. He deserted the Marines, and he’s been missing for some time now.”
“I won’t let it happen again. The piece of shit took advantage of you, knowing I wouldn’t be here to stop him.” “Big fucking mistake and this will be the last he’ll ever make.”
“Time waits for no one. Death is a shadow stalking the living. It is a dreadful, inexorable promise, and life is a lovely lie.”
