“I don’t need a manual to tell the truth.”
I don’t want her thinking the only thing you’ve been doing all summer is my son.” Jesse coughed. My eyes bugged out.
“Sometimes we just have to cut off the dead branches in our life. Sometimes that’s the only way we can keep the tree alive. It’s hard and it hurts, but it’s what’s best.”
“I can’t just leave her, Rowen.” His eyes shifted back to me. “I can’t abandon her.”
It will suck not being able to kiss you every day, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for you to be living your dreams.”
“Yeah,” he said. “I sure did.”
