Before we were even friends, I had told him that he represented the choice that had been stolen from me. In the end, after everything we had been through, that’s all he would ever be.
“You never saw her as anything more than your fucking little toy to play with.”
Deciding not to live up to your potential is your choice, love, but I will not aid in your self-destruction.”
“By the way, you look good enough to eat today, love,” Evander called from the other room, and my grip tightened around my mug as I forced myself not to respond.
“Ainsley’s met her match,” Felix whispered low, and I bristled at that thought.
“Whichever one you’d rather use while you beg for me later,” he said with a single-shoulder shrug. “However, my name does have such a nice ring to it while it’s being screamed.”
“If you find my size lacking, I’m sure I can more than make up for it with my tongue.” “The only thing your tongue seems to know how to do is talk shit.” “How about we go upstairs, and we can put that to the test?” he quipped and winked.
“Then trust that I would never let anything happen to her. If Pravus is planning on declaring war on Disparya, that means she would be a target because of what she is. I would never help a cause that would harm her.”
“When the land accepts someone as sovereign, it gives a special power—known as an obscure—to the person it binds to. I call what I was given traversing,” Evander explained.
“I believe Perceval sold those females to Oberon for him to use in his Conjoining experiments,” Evander finally said. I stopped breathing as the air was stolen from my lungs. “And I think if it weren’t for Perceval’s greed, you would have been one of them, Ainsley.”
Although…” he said, stepping closer, his lips spreading in a seductive smile. “I could think of a few other things that I’d prefer to do with you on your back.” That smug, arrogant prick. Before I knew what was happening, shadows shot from my hands, aimed at Evander’s face. He deflected my attack with a slight flick of his wrist, no more than the movement one would make to swat away a fly.
His Royal Majesty - King of Tenebrae - Master of Orgasms
“Master of Orgasms. Really?” I said sarcastically. Evander chuckled and shrugged. “It’s a demanding title, but someone has to do it,” he said smoothly and his lips pulled into that crooked grin he loved to wear.
Why was he always staring at me like he either wanted to fuck me or kill me?
Sure, Dashiell and I used to spend all night tangled up with each other, but we had breaks in between. If it was lasting hours straight, then maybe Evander wasn’t the Master of Orgasms after all. Perhaps it took that long because he sucked at pleasuring someone. I don’t know why that image brought me such happiness, but it did. Actually no. I knew exactly why: he was always a dick, and it was satisfying to think he had no clue how to use his.
“That’s not true,” Felix argued, shaking his head. “It doesn’t have anything to do with it not being Dash, but what happened out there… I understand that you’re hurting still, but that’s not how—”
“You deserve so much more than that, Ainsley,” Felix added, and I closed my eyes as a tear ran down my cheek. “You deserve to be loved and treated right. Dash didn’t do that, and neither did I as a friend. I know you’re still hurting, and I’m not sure those scars will ever fully fade for you, but please don’t do what I do. If you want to move on in whatever way, I’ll support you. But I am begging you, don’t do it just to stop the hurt. Because it’ll only make it worse, and I need it never to get worse for you. I don’t want you to lose yourself.”
“Being one of the owners has its perks, so I make sure to give them a massive tip.” “I’m sure you’d have to, given how small your cock is.” “Sorry, love, I think I must have misspoken. I meant that I make sure to give them my massive tip.”
“You shouldn’t be with someone nice. You deserve someone who feeds your passion and stokes the sparks of your flame. Someone who challenges you and won’t ever let your fire burn out. Nice is boring,”
“I’d normally accept such an invitation,” I said, pressing my mouth to his neck to place a soft kiss. Evander shivered, and I smiled against him, loving the effect I had on his body. “But,” I added, moving my mouth back to the shell of his ear to whisper. “I’d rather have someone who can actually satisfy me.”
“They say there is a fine line between love and hate, Ainsley. I’d say you’re straddling it now.”
“Oh, come on!” Felix drawled as he stood from his chair. “You both are absolutely ridiculous. We all know that the only thing either of you fucked last night was your own hand, so stop being so stubborn and just do something about all of this pent-up sexual tension because you’re making the rest of us miserable!”
“Ainsley, don’t you fucking keep this from me.” “It’s fine, Evander—” “THE FUCK IT IS!” he yelled, stepping away and running a hand through his black hair. “Nothing about this is fine, Ainsley.”
“Sorry,” Evander said under his breath as he guided me to the exit. “My magic must have slipped.”
