Another common question is, why are we conscious at all? This is like asking why water is wet. Wetness is what water is. They’re inseparable. Consciousness is what I am; essence, not attribute. To ask why I am conscious is to assume a distinction between self and consciousness, to assume the possibility of one without the other, like assuming the possibility of dehydrated water.
