“Ellie, if you don’t think I’m going to spoil you rotten you are sorely mistaken.”
“Who do I need to kill?”
“Open your mouth, Elena,” I command. She doesn’t listen. I use my fingers to roughly press her cheeks together and then I take a long swig of the leftover tequila. I lean over her and then let the alcohol fall from my mouth into hers in one continuous stream and then force her lips shut. “Swallow.” She has no choice, and she does, earning sweet praises from me. “Good girl.”
“I see more than you think I do,”
“I am painfully, catastrophically in love with you.”
“Do you believe in God?” I ask. He nods, and I laugh. “Look at me. Look at me. I’m your God now. Do you want to know why? Because I’m the only motherfucker on this planet that can show you mercy. Start praying. You’ll need it.”
I should have burnt this city to the ground when I had the chance.

I will buy you yachts and islands and mansions all over the world so you can feel safe. From across the room, Elena licks mashed potatoes off a spoon before throwing it into the sink, and I wink at her and mouth ‘I love you’. She winks back.
