Looking down at me isn’t a set of artificial green eyes, but a set of dazzling blue. Bright and vibrant and dynamic like the ocean. A vivid shade of aquamarine stands brilliantly against the dark paint in his eye sockets. They’re devastatingly beautiful.
“Do you believe in God?” I ask. He nods, and I laugh. “Look at me. Look at me. I’m your God now. Do you want to know why? Because I’m the only motherfucker on this planet that can show you mercy. Start praying. You’ll need it.”
“I said don’t touch her!” I yell, like a rabid animal waiting to pounce. “She’s fucking scared. Give her a goddamn minute.”

“How do you know me better than I know myself?” “Because I see more than you think I do. And I see an angel who just got her wings.”
“Elena once told me that you call Elliot your soulmate because you fell in love with him despite him being so hard to love. I guess she didn’t realize the true meaning of that statement.”
She hands back the ring. “You’d start a war for love?” “For Elena? I wouldn’t just start a war. I’d win it.”
“We keep secrets to protect the people we love.”
“I think that’s the harsh reality of being a woman,” my mother continues, “we’re always so focused on everyone else, that we forget we need to take care of ourselves, too.”
