A serial killer went out of his way to return my most important belongings.

The serial killer in my apartment tucked me into bed after I passed out and he made sure to put my socks back on my feet so they wouldn’t get cold.
“Everything that happens to you is a big deal. Say the word, and I’ll take care of him.”
“I promise, I’m the one thing in this city you never have to be afraid of.”
“Mr. Hayden, her name is Elena. I have never slept with her. If that implication ever leaves your mouth, or this room, or you so much as think it again, I will shove a lawsuit so far up your ass you’ll be able to taste paper.
“You’re so much more than a nobody, Elena.”
“I don’t want to hear another man’s name out of your mouth again, Elena.”
I muster the courage to look at him, his eyes fixated on the marks around my neck. His gaze goes dark with fury, and that’s when I notice something odd about his eyes. A soft film of green overlaps his dark pupils. He’s wearing colored contacts.
The unfiltered rage in his eyes scares me to death. “Who did this to you?” he asks quietly, though his tone couldn’t be any more venomous.
“If your safety is even slightly in jeopardy, it’s an emergency to me. Next time, press the goddamn button.”
“If you’re so concerned about my humanity, Elena, then reach into my soul and find it, because I’m not sure I have any left.”
Can’t remember the last time someone had the balls to shoot me. Respect.
“Mr. Reeves thinks you’re pretty too, ‘cause he won’t stop looking at you.”
