“It’s just darkness,” he’d say. “Right now, you feel uncomfortable in your apathy. You’re tired and you don’t want to fight. It’s okay. Just relax and let it pass.”

I knew the best way I could make an impact on any large scale was to share my story. This would allow people like me to see themselves in healthy, everyday situations, and provide the single thing I knew they needed most: hope.
