Then she smiles at me. And somehow writing a new song doesn’t seem so hard.
Daisy’s not my muse. She’s too much her own person to be defined by such a shallow word. But she inspires me just the same.
You are a pain, Daisy, you’re a pain in my heart. Because all I want is to be around you, to know every part of you, even when it’s wrong.”
“Right now, you’re going to get warm. And then, since you love wearing men’s shirts so much, I’ll wrap you in one of mine. I never want to see you in another man’s shirt again. Then I’m putting you in bed, and I’m going to hold you until you fall asleep. But I won’t sleep myself. Because I’ll be watching you all night and thanking God that you’re here.”
“She’s not fake-dating you,” Ryder says flatly. “Why?” Brendan asks. “Yeah, why?” I interject. “Because she’s real-dating me, damn you.”
“I’m completely and utterly not cynical about you, Daisy Lane.” My breath catches at the intensity of his expression. “I’m not cynical about you either, Ryder Black.” I whisper it like a vow. And that’s what worries me.
“I’m playing you a new song tonight. No one’s heard it yet. I wrote it for the only girl I’ve ever loved. She’s also the girl I wrote ‘She’s Magic’ for ten years ago. She was magic then. And she’s magic now. And I hope I’ll get to see all the ways she’s magic every day for the rest of my life.”
“Her name is Daisy. This song is called ‘Forever I’ll Follow.’ And it’s for her. Because that’s my plan for the rest of my life.”
