Saving Rain

“Soldier! I opened my heart and my home to you. I fed you, and I loved you, and you repaid me by taking away the thing I loved most in this world.”

I wanted to beg her to never stop loving me despite it all because if she did, there wouldn’t be a single shred of love for me left in this entire world.

“It’s crazy. Like … sometimes, we have these moments, you know, that are so profound in our lives, but we have no clue they’re happening when they’re actually happening.

You are cared for, Soldier, and as long as I'm around, you will never ever be alone in this world. You will always have somewhere to go.

“I know what to do with pain, Ray,” I said, keeping my tone barely above a whisper. “Give yours to me. Let me carry it, so you don’t have to anymore.”

“I love you,” she said abruptly, sure and sincere. “That’s what I wanted to say this morning when I only told you I really liked you. I love you, Soldier. I love you more than I’ve ever loved anyone else

But I need you here more than I need him gone.”
