“I know.” “How do you know?” “Because this isn’t what your hair usually looks like.”
When Julian finished, he stepped back, appraised his work, and then muttered three words beneath his breath that momentarily halted mine. “There she is.”
“Juni, turn around for me.”
“Fuck, Juniper.”
“God, yes—”
“Nothing’s wrong. You just shocked me.”
“A good way, Daisy.”
Luckily, I was used to being suffocated by beautiful things.
“Juni has a way of surprising everyone.”
I dropped a kiss on her head.
“It’s true, baby,”
“So now you’re part of the inner circle. If you’re important to me, you’re important to him.
“I noticed you didn’t correct him, though.”
“The conversation got away from me.”
“You didn’t make me do anything, Daisy. You didn’t ask me to drive all the way to New York. I offered, didn’t I?”
“Because I knew it meant a lot to you,”
“I’m not acting,”
“I had to stop him from coming into the bathroom after you,”
“He’s waiting on the other side of the door,”
“The DJ is calling all couples onto the dance floor.”
“It drives me nuts that I can’t read your mind sometimes,”
“I’m dancing with my girlfriend,”
I JUST WANTED TO get inside her. As in, her brain.
I strongly suspected she was just like me; she was bothered because she liked it, not because she didn’t.
“I told you already. I’m happy to be here.”
“I’ve spent years fighting my attraction to this woman,”
“I know.”
“I’ve watched you fight it on more than one occasion,”
“Maybe you should drive her up a wall,”
“You’re running laps on a practice field to prove you’re worth something so she’ll give you playing time in the game.”
“You can’t drink, my little whiskey girl,”
I kissed her on the cheek. “I’ll be here,” I breathed in her ear.
“Give me one good reason I shouldn’t break all your fucking fingers.”
“And I do like you, Daisy,” he breathed, dipping his head to press it against mine. “Stop telling me how I feel.”
“I can’t believe I’m saying this,” I breathed. “But I like you, too.”
“I want to stay with you,” I whispered, “if you’re not sick of me.”
“You have pretty eyes,”
“Don’t take a picture of the next part, Daisy.”
“Why not?” “Because my sister doesn’t need to see a picture of me taking your clothes off,”
“I’m not ready for it to be over.”
“Sure, baby,” he rasped. His gaze dropped to my mouth and then back to my eyes, burning me up inside. “We can stay like this as long as you want. Whatever you want.”
I wanted to spend them kissing Julian Briggs.
“She came crying to you, huh? Careful, Briggs. Your jealousy is showing. Your sister might not realize how badly you want my girlfriend, but I sure do.”
“She’s not your fucking girlfriend,” I reminded him. “Not anymore.” That was the one good thing to come from him being a cheating asshole.
She deserved all the kisses, but this was the only one I could give, so I was going to do it well.
I wanted more. I wanted her. I wanted to taste every inch of this woman.
Holy shit, I wanted her. So. Goddamn. Much.
“I need you to take kissing me as seriously as I take kissing you,”
“I do,” she gasped. “It’s just that you’re good at this.”
“I’m good at a lot of thin...
