“Leith Dougall.” He pointed at himself and then at me. “Ciara Callaghan.” “Is this some weird ‘me Tarzan, you Jane’ pick-up line?” I asked, pushing down the sudden bubble of laughter in my chest.
Even though we got along well, I had a feeling that after these Olympics I’d be given my walking papers and they would try to find a new fourth member. Did that make me the Zayn of the group? I wasn’t sure.
Nash smiled for the first time since leaving the shower. “‘She’s just so pretty and I want her to step on me,’ sounds familiar?” he said, pitching his voice much higher than what mine actually was as he mimicked the drunk words that had tumbled out of my mouth last week.
Brynn plopped down into the seat next to me and started putting her skates on. “What’d I miss?” she asked cheerfully, clearly not picking up on the tenseness in the air. “Ariana was just being a cunt because she doesn’t understand how accommodations work.” I made sure I was looking her in the eye as I spoke.
“Did you ever wonder how an American like me somehow ended up in Scotland?” Ciara shrugged her shoulders with a shake of her head. “Not really, did you ever wonder how an Irish woman like me ended up in Minnesota?”
“Even if it came about in a surprising way,” he said, his green eyes soft on her in the dim light of the bedroom. “I am glad she’s a part of our pack now—and I also think that guy out there is a good fit, so be nice.” “I’m always nice,” I grumbled, making the other alpha laugh softly.
“Hey, Alexei, look at it this way,” Dutch said as he and Nash pushed to the front, offering me surreptitious thumbs up while the coaches were looking away. “You’re running out of daughters that hockey players can date.”
“We’re all a little fucked up in this family, if you haven’t noticed. Leith’s got attachment issues, Artie’s losing his eyesight at a breakneck pace and I can’t seem to keep my head on straight for more than a day before I have my next freak out. The only normal one here is Wiz and yet I think he might be the craziest one of us all for putting up with this shit.”
“I don’t need you to protect me. I’ve been doing a good job all on my own for twenty-six years.” Enzo’s jaw tensed and he pointed a finger at me. “And therein lies the problem. You’re not alone anymore and yet you still act like it’s you against the world.” I felt him mentally yank on the bonds like he was pulling on the reins of a horse. “This means you are never going to be alone again. We’re tied together forever, Ciara Callaghan.”
“I followed the bond to where the sensation of two people shagging was the strongest and ta-da! Wouldn’t you know it the two of you are having sex in a supply closet—again.” Artie was scolding us, but even I could feel the sheer delight oozing out of the omega.
