“You should sleep with me,” I blurted out, and Nikki froze. “Nope, that wasn’t it. I’ll admit that didn’t exactly come out right.” I spoke quickly, trying to cover the blunder. “You should sleep next to me tonight. Not on the couch. It’s a king-sized bed. You need proper rest. It'll be harder for people to sneak up on you if you're in bed with me.” She slowly looked over her shoulder, cocking an eyebrow. “Sleep?” she repeated. “That’s it. Just sleep.”
