All the inconsequential parts of her were brought to life around him, like her body would rather burn than be invisible.
Takeshi’s gaze alone held her feet stapled to the ground. He was the anchor when her resolve threatened to slip away in shrouds of dust.
“I’m not afraid of you. Hell, I might understand you better than I understand myself.
We are worlds apart. And that’s where we’ll always stand.”
“We were never worlds apart. If we were, you wouldn’t be everywhere inside of me. When I look at you, my chest feels like it’s about to crack open, and all the emotions I’ve beaten down to submission come roaring back with a fucking vengeance.”
“For every scar visible on your body, I have to prevent myself from seeking out your assailants and slashing each one of their throats. I’ve watched you fight through every battle, despite the trials and tragedies you’ve faced, and it never ceases to astound me. Just staring at you right now makes me want to take you every way imaginable, and nothing about it is innocent.”
“You know I was never innocent.” She lifted her head, pulse racing. “That’s why you met me in prison.” His eyes blazed sinfully, and then he grabbed her by the back of the neck and kissed her.
You’re the story I read slowly. I want to savor and memorize every word of you.
“Khalani.” Takeshi gazed deep into her eyes. “It’s taking all of my self-control not to barricade this room, make you scream with pleasure and take away every bit of torment you’ve endured in this place.”
“Not now.” Takeshi seethed. “And if you don’t want this to happen again, I understand and will keep my distance. But if you do, it’s not over for me. To be honest…I might never be over you.” Deep lines marred his forehead, as if his own admission surprised him.
“We better go now, or else my hands and tongue will be all over you, and we won’t leave this room until tomorrow.” Oh no… Not that…
Every action had a consequence. And the truth always came out. Always. They would either be free or dead when that happened.
Some things are better left in shatters, lest they use their strength to topple the world.
“I have lived a long time, Miss Kanes. Do you know what I have constantly searched for?” “Morality?” His eyes narrowed imperceptibly as she turned to face him. That appeared to strike a nerve. “Unpredictability. I long for variability in this monotonous play, and you, Khalani, provide that much more than any of these blubbering, shortsighted, mindless constituents living on Genesis.”
“Death is but a cycle in life.” Alexander flicked his hand. “You are born just to die, and that’s the human curse. But it was not I that took your life or your parents’ lives. It was the people that came before you. If destruction is in the equation, peace can never be the outcome.
I am but a catalyst to bring about necessary change.” “And what change is that?” His eyes flickered with antipathy as he bent to whisper in her ear, “Taking destruction out of the equation.”
“No man has ever escaped Braderhelm.” Brock crossed his arms. “You stand no chance of surviving.” “Is that so?” She inched closer, and Brock’s feverish eyes narrowed. “Then a woman must not have tried yet.”
Alone, I fall. Together, we rise.
Takeshi shut his mouth with a snap, shaking his head. Still, his dark eyes communicated so much more, as if she were the blazing sun and he the brisk moon—striking and far-reaching, forever destined to be apart.
Her mind grappled with the impossibility of the moment. Millions of questions swirled in her mind when all that lay before them was misery, death, and destruction.
