I remember when originally writing this chapter that I was trying to make the point that a horse’s “try” to do what we are asking is often much smaller than we might think, and is almost always smaller than what we are looking for. In the years since writing this book, and in particular this chapter, I have come to understand that a horse’s “try” is very often even smaller than what I understood it to be back then!
