Hedonism as a formal ethic has few serious advocates beyond the likes of Hugh Hefner, but at the practical level we are all influenced by it. Unless we are masochists, most of us do not enjoy pain, so we eagerly seek ways to escape or at least diminish it. This is why the temptation to opt for abortion is so powerful. It is a way of escape.
