“From now on…” Florian’s calm voice was a startling blow at my back. “I think rather than tell you not to move, I shall tell you to run and hide from me naked and alone in a river in the dead of night.” His clenched jaw rose when I whirled in the water to find him standing beside my discarded clothing. “Then you won’t move a fucking inch.”
“Tell me that you see it.” Annoyance, and perhaps something like fear, threaded into my voice. “What is it you’re wanting me to see, Florian?” I opened my eyes, and they crashed into his. A mistake, for I could see it swimming within the stormy sea of his gaze. I saw it all before he released those poisonous words to my lips. “That I’m so wretchedly in love with you, it’s both saved and damned me.”
