My target was waiting for me down there and he didn’t even know his guardian angel had arrived yet.

“Duh,”

My fist snapped out on instinct and I caught him straight in the jaw, busting his lip open in the process. We both froze for half a second as the shock of what I’d just done washed over us then he shot towards me again with a manic smile lighting his face.

My lips parted in surprise as I stared at the huge glass jar which sat on the trolley. It had a gold lid inscribed with runes and whatever the hell was inside it twisted and danced like bright blue starlight. Something about it called to me in a desperate kind of way, like it was aching to be set loose from the jar.
