I have no idea what this taking a bullet is about, but the man protecting me just agreed to being compared to the Second Coming and owned it like a badass. Yikes. Big dick energy to the power of Jesus. It doesn’t get any bigger than that.

“Say one more fucking thing about my wife, I’ll take you out into the Pacific myself, but only one of us will return. I gave you a warning, and you still ran your mouth. Try me again and you’re dead. I don’t want to know what goes down in your bedroom, so stay the hell out of mine. While I’m running the family business in the U.S., Landyn is the queen of this house, and you’ll fucking treat her like one.”

“Never again, baby. They’ll have to kill me before they can get to you again.” “Don’t say that,” I whisper. “I wouldn’t be able to live with that mark on my soul, Boz.” He presses his lips to the top of my head. “I won’t let that happen. There’s no way my soul can bear the brunt of this again.”

“Nothing stands between us any longer. It’s you, and it’s me. If it ends up being us against the world, I’ll take them all down. And I’ll do it for you—I’ll do anything to keep you by my side.”

“You, Cruz, are a drama queen and a bullet magnet. I think you and I need to take a break. I have a wife, two kids, a cranky cat, and a farmhouse. I’d like to grow old with them … and in them, if you catch my drift. I’d give you the whole it’s not you, it’s me bit, but I’m no liar. It’s you—totally you. You need to rethink your priorities.” And with that, I watch the CIA officer turn and clomp down the stairs. Wow. After two years and all we’ve been through, Cole actually broke up with me.

“He grabbed the first flight he could find back to D.C. Apparently, I pushed his boundaries, and we’re on a break. But really, he was done.
