“Together,” I say. His eyes flash like stars. “Together.”
As if there was nothing else in the world, no goblins or knights, his lips crash over mine. It’s every longing moment of our separation being released at last. Something no dream could replicate.
As for Rosalina… This will only confirm for her the villain I am. But I told her I’d be her darkness, and if only a villain can save her, then so be it.
“Stand together, fall together,”
“Now is definitely not the time or place,” I mean to sneer, but it comes out a breathy sigh. He raises a dark brow. “But battlefield kisses are your speciality. Must be the rot on my lips. Fear it may ruin your complexion?”
Me and him in a world only the two of us understand. A place surrounded by swirling thorns and cosmic stars.
“Wouldn’t it be worth it, though? One woman to save your entire realm?” “It wouldn’t be worth it for me.” Keldarion grips my chin and makes me look at him. “If that brands me as a terrible leader, then so be it. But there is nothing I would not do for you. There is nothing in this world I would not sacrifice for you.”
“What are you going to do, Day? You haven’t even broken your curse. And when you do, Rosie won’t matter to you anymore. I won’t matter to you anymore.” I lurch forward and wrap my arms around Farron, holding him tight. “Listen to me, and listen to me well, Pup. You are mine. I am yours. And she is ours. Until either of you say otherwise or force me away.”
“I would rip it apart—the cosmos, the threads of life—if I could bind you to us.” I spin him and push the hair off his brow. “I know you would. But even the brilliant High Prince of Autumn has his limits.” I lean in, brushing my lips over his. “So just love me instead.”
We’ve always been that special time between the turn of summer to fall when the leaves change as bright as the beaming sun that hasn’t yet been chased away.
He sinks to his knees before me. I’m reminded of the legend of sirens peering up from the ocean, ready to ensnare sailors. I would gladly sink to the bottom of his sea.
“Wouldn’t that be terrible for you? To receive nothing in return?” “Oh no, my Rose. Your body is all I have dreamed about since you walked through the door of Castletree. Will you let me touch you? Touch all of you?”
“I have always and will forever be yours, my Rose.” I drop the thorns and kiss him lightly. “I’m yours, Kel. You know I’m yours.” He grips me around the waist and tugs me over his hips. “Then hold on to the headboard and sit on my face.”
“What need do I have for air with your thighs around my head?”
ice dildo,
I love you, he says in my mind. In the starlight way, I say back.
something is terribly wrong. I feel it in my chest, as if my heart has lost its cadence.
I won’t let anyone, or anything take her from me. Not the monsters that prowl the Briar or the demons that masquerade as men. I will be damned if my own land steals her away.
“For you, Rosalina, I will be better,” he breathes. “For you, I would do anything.”
“Where do you think you’re going?” “To save her.” “Sire, you’re still injured!” Though my bones are bruised, my skin torn, I have breath in my lungs and my heart still beats. I don’t even bother to look at them as I find my footing and stride forward.
“There’s no way out for you. Why do you bother getting up?” she chides. “Because I have something to fight for. I have someone to fight for.”
“There is nothing—nothing—that could keep me from you. No blood nor blade nor judgment cast upon me. I would tear my bones from the grips of death and offer a thousand more in my stead if it means you await me at the end of it all.”
I will kill my brother, or I will die.
