At the same time, the high expectations every hour of every day wore on me like a constant grinding, something out of sync winding against a gear, especially since I was clearly incapable of living up to his impossible standards.

Maybe if you were honest witb her and as you noticed earlier not maiking her feel ugly, you'd know how much she wants you.
“Damn straight. And if I ever catch you doing that to Gary again—”
I thought she let Harry wiggle out of this too easily. He absolutely lied to her and then let her twist in the wind for days before she had a suspicion about what was happening. And then to continue to do it in their home and act like it wasn’t a big deal is just not ok.
“Of course.” He gave me a look that said I should know better. “I'd do whatever you needed me to do, Marnie. You only have to ask.”
