His letters to Homer Wells were longer than his longest entries in A Brief History of St. Cloud’s, and they were written and mailed the day following Dr. Larch’s receipt of the most minimal scrawl from Homer. “You can’t expect the boy to keep up with you, Wilbur,” Nurse Edna advised Dr. Larch. “You can’t expect him to compete with you,” Nurse Angela said.
