The petition, “Thy Kingdom come,” has a necessary and unavoidable corollary, which is, “Our kingdom go.” The condition of complete illumination is complete purgation. Only the purified soul can realize identity with Brahman; or, to change the religious vocabulary, union with God can never be achieved by the Old Adam, who must lose the life of self-will in order to gain the life of the divine will.
