Studies have proven that oxytocin, and brain sensitivity to oxytocin, enhances the ability to accurately read faces. When people view photos of eye regions on human faces that are expressing some sort of emotion, they correctly decipher the expression more often if they’ve been given a dose of oxytocin. People who are, for whatever reason, less socially literate at judging how others feel during conversations about emotional events are also better able to empathize if they’re given oxytocin beforehand.
