Did he just call me an idiot? She didn’t have any weapons! I guess he is my weapon, though. Go forth, meat shield.
it also allowed her to feel the trunks he called legs.
Humour filled his chest; he was becoming smitten with purposefully annoying the little Elf. She always responded with an adorable pout or a cute brow furrow.
he noticed earlier that she’d almost huddled into him protectively. No one had ever sought his protection in a crowd full of people – usually, people were seeking protection from him.
Giddy up? More like giddy go-fuck-yourself.
When a nearby howl echoed in the distance, one that didn’t sound remotely like any kind of animal, she had the desire to cut open Merikh and hide within him.
“I don’t want to talk to a big jerk.” His fangs parted in disbelief, before he shut them with a clipping noise. “What are you, five? Stop acting like a bratty child.”
“Speaking of figuring it out together... could you help me cook?” “Me? Why would I know how to cook? I’ve never cooked a thing in my life. If it wasn’t obvious to you, everything I’ve eaten is usually so fresh, it’s still screaming.”
I’ll just take care of myself. It was a win-win, for her at least. The giggles echoing within his cave were loopy and unhinged, but she couldn’t help them.
Merikh grunted before sliding his arms around her to hug her. He was tense at first, but he eventually eased into it. He even brushed the side of his snout against her. “I think this is the first time I’ve hugged someone,” he admitted with an awkward mumble.
Why did he have to become the keeper of knowledge for his kind?
He should have told her everything last night, but he’d been a... cowardly chicken. Did he eat one in the past or something? Should he start bawking and flap his arms?
“I don’t understand why you’re so upset over this. It’s probably better that he stays there.” “Because I am in love with him, you stupid, idiotic, silly horn head!” She bashed on his shoulders with purposefully weak punches. She just wanted to retaliate for all the pain in her chest by hurting him in return.
“How was I supposed to know he’d come back to life?” Cykran snapped back. “I didn’t think it would be a good idea to tell you I saw them bring back your dead lover’s head, okay? Your face was all gross from crying,
“What I want has changed. I don’t care where I am so long as I have it.” “What do you want, then?” His breaths whimpered, anxious and fearful. It was strange. His answer was slow to come, but it was soft, uttered so quietly that it was a whisper. “You.” Her heart stammered in her chest,
“You have scored my heart, Raewyn. I never dreamt of having a bride because I didn’t think it was possible, but in your light, in your unconditional acceptance, you made me believe.”
want you to be my beacon on the days the darkness wishes to take hold of me again.”
“I have been waiting for over three hundred years for you.”
“If you truly meant what you said, if you have really found it within your heart to love me, I won’t allow anyone to take you away from me.”
She gave him a broken smile. “You will be. You have me, remember?” She lifted her arm and flexed her biceps as she tapped it. “I’m councilwoman Raewyn Daefaren, the representative for the Duskwalker people.”
Plus, she kind of did just give him her soul. Rejecting him would be considered cruel, since they were technically bonded, even if it wasn’t by her customs. This might actually work in my favour. She almost wanted to rub her hands together and evilly cackle.
Is this where Jabez was kept? Had his arms been bound like Merikh’s while he sat in this fucking hellhole? Already, it was driving him insane, and he’d only been here a short while. How long did Raewyn say Jabez had been inside it? Six Elven years, the equivalent of ninety Earth years? No wonder he went fucking mad.
“I love you, Raewyn,” he said, the pink of his orbs brightening as he lifted his head back so he could properly see her reaction. She was his equal, his polar opposite, his strengths where he was weakest, his vulnerability where he was strongest. She was all that mattered, all that would ever matter.
“I love you, too, and if you don’t know this about me yet, I want you to know that once I set my heart to something, it never fades.”
“My home is standing in front of me,” Merikh answered warmly as bright-pink sparks flashed. Reaching up, she waited for him to place his weighty skull in her palms so she could nuzzle the end of his bear skull snout. Mine too, she thought.
