“I really wish I was one of the men in your books.” My chin quivers. “You’d kill for me?” “Well, killing is a stretch. Maybe a fistfight? A little stabbing to non-vital organs?”
God, I could never get enough of her.
It takes us twenty minutes to reach Iman’s apartment. I curse myself for not calculating the distance before making my overconfident statement, “I’ll see you in ten.” We’re already off to a rough start.
I extend my hand toward her, hoping she’ll take it. Her soft palms mould with mine, tempting me to kiss her knuckles. It fucking pains me to remember how many times I’ve unintentionally hurt her, staining her strong, golden, gullible heart.
“I need you to know that no matter what you’re going through, every fibre of my being cherishes you, and I wouldn’t dream of changing a single thing about you,” Azeer whispers, his words like a balm to my fresh scars.
“You are heart-stopping, Alina jaan.”
“You are more than enough for me. You are everything I’ve ever wanted and more.” “Azeer—” “You. Are. Everything.”
“I’m not a poet, Alina jaan, but I believe the universe conspired to bring us together. To be with you this close, to hold you and kiss you and tell you how grateful I am for a woman like you. My stupid wife elevates my heart, and I chuckle as I shower her with kisses all over her face. She giggles and tries to push me away, but I persist in getting a taste of this magnificent, mean woman.
“Would you choose me again?” “Gross, no.” But then she smiles and cuts off my riposte with her soft, plush lips. “In every universe, I’d choose you, Asseer.”
He looks down at me with devotion and protection in his dark-brown gaze. I’m safe. I’m safe with this man. With my husband. “Hello, beautiful.”
“I love you both more than words can express. Thank you for accepting me, loving me, and making me feel like the luckiest woman in the world.” “I love you, too,” Zoha says, kissing my cheek. “To Neptune and back.”
“Alina Azlan, I wish to spend the rest of my years with you, and even if we don’t believe in the afterlife, I will spend all my years with you then, too. So, will you please, please marry me again?”
