The saddest thing of all, was that I’d never have met Elise if her brother hadn’t died. It was a cruel twist of fate. But if I could undo what had been done, I’d take that fate instead. Because Elise would rather have her brother in her life than some fucked up Elysian Mate who didn’t deserve a hair on her head, let alone her heart.
I’m sorry, Gareth. I am so, fucking sorry.
“You told me yourself, you’re more powerful than everyone thinks. So Fae up and show that gross Griffin who’s boss.”
“One day you’ll kill her,” she said as she drew away. “And I’ll stand at your side while you do it.”
Leon roared so loudly that I could have sworn he’d shifted. “We’re going to play Zodiac Academy!” he cried in triumph, dropping to his knees in the mud like he couldn’t believe it was really happening.
“You really don’t want to try and fight me on this,” Gabriel growled, stepping in front of me as water swirled between his fingers. “I’m the strongest Fae in this school and you’d do well not to forget it.”
“If I have to fight for her then I’ll happily take you both down,” Gabriel snarled, flexing his wings.
“Fuck, little monster, how many of us are there?” Leon asked, almost sounding amused though he mainly looked shocked.
“What do you mean, four?” Gabriel demanded and suddenly the three of them were all staring at me with the storm clouds circling darkly in the sky above. It was pretty damn intimidating and my heart started racing.
“Well…you three, obviously. And Ryder,” I said defiantly. “Draconis? Are you fucking kidding me?!” Gabriel shouted and Dante growled darkly, suddenly in agreement with him.
“Back the fuck up,” I snapped. “You and Gabriel?” I knew it. “Well…” She shrugged innocently.
“Ti amo, Elise,” Dante said in a low voice, interrupting me. “You can trust me. I’d sooner die than hurt you.”
“I could beat Bryana Whatsherface and Lisa Whofuckingcares in a Fae on Fae fight any day. This is bullshit.”
“Sorry, dude. You’re not my type.” Leon started laughing, jumping to his feet and yanking me after him.
“This had better be important, Simba, or I’ll break your legs for wasting my time,” Ryder’s voice came to me from out in the corridor and I turned to look back at the door as I heard Leon’s reply.
“I’ve decided to give you what you’ve been begging for, Scar,” Leon teased. “We are all going to watch The Lion King.”
“I know you do. But I want all of you. Every last piece. I want to be yours and for you to be mine. All mine.”
“Who am I going to tell? The girls at the next big sleepover while we’re all braiding each other’s hair?” Roary snorted a laugh at his own joke and I couldn’t help but smile too.
Lance Orion. He was Zodiac Academy’s star player. He’d had photoshoots in magazines all over Solaria as they tipped him to be picked up by the Solarian Pitball League once he graduated. The image changed and Orion sat before me on a large bed with books spread out around him. The texts drew my gaze and I saw a hundred spells staring back at me. But they weren’t things I’d ever learned. They were dark magic.
