For those who have been burned by pain. It ruined us… but we rose from the ashes.
Love is an expensive piece of bullshit, and its price is your fucking soul.
“Bad news, you’re mine now, sweetheart. My Shadow claimed you, so I’m home now.”
His dagger is buried in my abdomen. “Don’t believe me? Let’s find out the hard way then, sweetheart.”
“I’d walk a thousand moons to never leave your side. The thought of you without me… It’s selfish, but it’s unacceptable. I want you. I love only you, Terra.”
“The Shadow that chose you keeps the vessel safe. Heals your flesh from mild wounds. You called me delusional, remember, sweetheart? Fuck around, find out,”
But if her Shadow could heal her that quickly, I know the power in her veins is comparable to my own. Velis has never taken a liking to anyone else’s Shadow before.
A rush of something odd fills the space in my chest at how she looks so small in my coat. I don’t think I like this sensation, it’s new, and new is never a good thing, especially in the middle of a mission.
“Because you have a Deathless Shadow now, sweetheart. As I do. Yours is similar to mine, it seems. It has devoured your initial trauma to keep its host sane. You’ll have to determine what it takes from here on, but take it from me, kid. It’s better to let it have the bad things.”
“There’s darkness in you and it will reach for mine whether you like it or not. You can’t fight it forever.”
My eyes widen at the sight, and Raine’s arm grips me tighter as I start laughing with him. The warmth of his chest sinks into me. This is amazing—I feel so alive. Other ziplines start to sound off and kids from every rooftop whoop as they glide through the morning light as well, connecting to different buildings, all in opposite directions with no rhyme or reason.
“You have the same moons in your eyes as I do. The other half of my endless night.”
