Emotion swelled in my throat at his words, at his promise of justice. This was the kind of man this planet needed to be filled with. Unfortunately, a man like this was a rare breed. He was a protector, that was clear, but there was a softness within him. Someone in the world got to see that softness. That someone wasn’t me. It would never be me. I wasn’t worthy of softness, period.
He was the first ray of sunlight that peaked through the clouds after a storm. He was a beautiful chord in a song that sent goosebumps across my skin. He was every note in the music I’d been writing for the last two months.
I was going to kiss her. I was going to slam my lips against her pretty pink ones and claim her with my mouth. I was going to devour her.
Newsflash: this cowboy wasn’t going away. Even if he was fighting for his life, he wasn’t going away.
