“This is what you do to me, Harmony,” he taunted
“Alive,” I rasped, gripping his biceps, arching into him.
“Yeah, I know, baby. You make me feel alive. Been dead for ...

“Drove me mad not knowing your name. Drove me mad watching you in your window, night after night, teasing me with those cute little pajamas. Wanted to kick your door in and fuck you on the floor like the little whore you are. Mark you, claim you, fill you over and over, again and again until your legs gave out,”
His hat fell back, but he caught it and settled it on my head before gripping my throat again. “Gonna fuck you every day for here on out; morning, afternoon, nighttime, whatever. Don’t care, darlin’. I’m going to fill my wife up every single fucking day,” he promised, his voice rough. “You good with that?”
“I’m done holding back with you, Little Song,” he clipped. “You want all of me? Here I fucking am.”
“Keep your hands right there,” he ordered, releasing me.
“I asked you if you were going to let me fuck my little, sweet, beautiful cunt any way I want. Answer me,” he barked, turning my face towards his, our lips inches apart. I nodded. “Any way you want,” I confirmed, breathless. He pulled out and slowly eased his way back in. “Such a good little whore for me,” he whispered. A moan left me, and he groaned deeply in approval. “You missed your cowboy’s dick, darlin’?” “So much,” I rasped. I missed him. I missed all of him. “You gonna milk it for me, gorgeous?” “Yes! Please, please, please,”
“That’s it. Such a good little wife, taking her husband’s cock so well.” Oh, goodness. “I’m going to—Mase—” I moaned louder than I ever had before, the sound clashing against the storm that surrounded us.
“I love you!” I cried out. My declaration sent him over the edge. “Oh, fuck, baby. Harmony!” he roared, releasing my hair. His hands covered mine as he swelled inside me, filling me. His lips were against the back of my head as he whispered, “Loved you the second I saw you and every second after that, Little Song.” Tears filled my eyes, the bruises on my heart finally healed.
“Shit’s about to hit the fan, Harm. When we go back to that house, it’s all going to come out, and I don’t want you to be blindsided,” he began. Pressing my lips together, I nodded, and he kissed my forehead. “Lie back down and let me tell you why I left Hallow Ranch.”
“Before I get into this, I need you to know that you are the only woman I’ve ever loved.”
“The night I left—that was the last straw. I’ve lived in my brother’s shadow all my life. It’s common for most siblings across the world, I guess. Parents aren’t supposed to have a favorite child, but Pop did—Denver. My parents struggled to conceive for years, and when they got pregnant with Den, and Momma gave Pop his boy, that was all he needed. Denver was intentional. I was a happy accident.”
“Harmony, dammit, I love you. You are my wife. I intend on spending the rest of my days with you and the children we create, but right now, I need to punch my brother,”
“Just one punch. Then you talk to him, you hear me?” she ordered. I chuckled darkly. “I get two, darlin’. Stay in the truck.” I was out before she could say another word and slammed the door.
“Gonna get two, Den,” I called out, readying myself. He nodded once. “Make them count.”
“Momma told me to protect you, Mase. Why the fuck do you think I wouldn’t have protected you from Pop?”
Listen to him, my sweet Mase.
“Mags, Navy Blue found out I was pregnant. He didn’t want me to be…” The air in the barn got colder, and the eyes of every cowboy flared. I braced as she delivered the final blow, tightening my hold on her, my fingers weaving into her curls, her heart beating against me. She took another unsteady breath. “He—he took care of it himself,” she whispered, broken and weak.
And you would be at the center of it, Harm.
“I thought it was rather beautiful.”
“Did you write that?”
She was beautiful—striking almost. Her blue eyes were soft as she gazed down upon me. Her thick hair was swooped back into a low ponytail, and she was wearing light blue jeans and a navy shirt with an “H” on the front, right over the heart. She had a warm smile on her face, her blue eyes scanning over me.
“If you would prefer a different place, we can go there,”
“Oh, take that with you. I want you to sing me a song.”
“You’ve been through so much, Harmony. You didn’t deserve to get lost in the darkness again.”
“Your voice is beautiful,” she replied, coming closer to me. “My boy loves it when you sing.”
“You were about to be lost again, Harmony. You two can’t lose each other in a sea of pain, not after you’ve found each other in the storm.”
“My boy loves you, you know?”
“He’s stubborn, actually. Both of them are,”
“You saved him, Harmony. I was worried he couldn’t be saved, not after everything…not after the pain.”
“You are beauty, inside and out. I was scared he wouldn’t find such beauty, that my boy would live in anger forever,”
“That vile man isn’t welcome here,” she warned. “Push him from your thoughts.”
“Sweet girl, we don’t have much time.” “Time for what?”
“He doesn’t control you, Harmony,”
“He hurt you, sweet girl, but he didn’t break you.”
“Tell the monster to go away,” she ordered. “You have the power here!”
“My boy is calling for you, Harmony. He needs you, more than you’ll ever know. I’m sorry I won’t be there to see it. I’ve never got to see him ride, but you have.”
“He loves your voice, Harmony. He loves it when you sing.”
“This was Momma’s. Before I left Hallow Ranch, I snuck into Pop’s room and stole it from the safe. I needed to have a piece of her when I left. Now, I need to have it on you, every single day. I need to look at the most treasured thing in my life and see that ring on her finger.”
The woman who brought me here, Mason’s mother, was standing a few feet from us. “Grandma lets me see you every day. She said you are making her son happy. She said that you’re love.”
“I’ve got her for now, Harmony,”
“As much as you want to let go, you can’t, sweet girl,” Mason’s mother said, taking my daughter’s hand. “My boy needs you.” “What do you mean?” I cried. “I want to be here!” She shook her head as she began to fade away. “The monster is gone. He won’t ever try to drag you under again, but you need to live. You overcame the pain. You’re strong. It’s time to go back.”
“Grandma Jane takes care of me, Mommy! She keeps me safe.”
“You have to go back, Mommy. Don’t worry, Grandma and I will be waiting!”
“Do me a favor, Harmony?” Jane called. I looked back at the woman and my child. They were holding hands. She was going to keep my baby safe, and for that, I owed her everything. “Anything,” I rasped. “When my wild boy asks you to sing for him, remember we can hear your songs. There’s power in your voice, daughter, use it.” “Bye, Mommy!”
“You’ve defeated him, sweet girl,” Jane declared. “Go live.” “Harmony, please!”
Something wet hit my other cheek. It was a tear—a tear that came from my husband.
“Sammy is mine, you hear me? He doesn’t get her. That’s my daughter. If somehow, a cowboy like me gets into heaven, that little girl is mine. Fuck, I love her so much.” “Mason…” I buried my face in his neck, crying. “I love her mommy, too. Fuck, baby, I love you both so much,” he cried, his arms tightening around me.
“I forgive him, Momma. I forgive Denver for the sins he didn’t commit. Take care of our wildflower for us, yeah?”
