It came in the form of a smile—a real, genuine smile. It was a smile that stretched so beautifully across a man’s face that my soul sighed in awe, the bruises on my heart healing, the doubt in my mind vanishing Mason Langston was smiling at me.
“Kiss me,” I repeated. “Don’t gotta tell me twice, darlin’. Just getting settled,”
“I thought you were hungry,” I noted breathlessly as he moved across my chest to my other breast, his hand engulfing the one he just left, squeezing it.
“Been starving since the moment I saw you,”
“Mason—” His eyes came to mine instantly as he declared, “I’m hungry.” Suddenly, my panties were shredded with a vicious tug. “That’s the second pair you’ve ripped,”
“Taste like fucking heaven, did you know that?” he said his jaw tight, his muscles flexing under his warm skin. “Please, please,” I whimpered, lifting my hips. He looked down at my pussy and then to my moving hips. “Needy little thing, aren’t you, Harmony?”
“More, please!” “If you are going to beg, I want those blue eyes on me,” he purred. When I looked at him, his head was tilted, studying me. “Mase, please,”
“Right here, darlin’? That where you want my mouth?” “Mason…” “Say the words,” he growled. “Please put your mouth on my pussy,”
“Oh, Mason,” I moaned. “You keep those eyes on me, Harmony,” he ordered, his voice ragged and thick with need. “Don’t you dare shut yourself off from me. Let me see you.”
“You’ve plagued my thoughts—my entire sense of being from the moment I saw you, Harmony Green. You have no idea how much you consume me.”
“We are going to talk every single fucking day.”
“You are going to tell me about your dreams in the morning when I call you. You are going to tell me about your day when I call you in the evening.”
“Every night, you are going to Facetime me so I can see you—every ...

“If you think I’m going to go a single day without giving your body the pleasure it deserves, you’re out of your fucking mind,”
“Trust me, baby, I know. This cunt is squeezing my cock so tight, I can barely think.” “Mase,”
The headboard above me was slamming into the wall, the sound of our skin echoing at the same pace, my cries and pleading carrying through the rooms of his hotel suite, his grunts filling my ears like they were for me and me alone.
“Calling me that like it’s nothing,” he hissed. “Like it doesn’t mean something to me.” “I—”
We stayed like that for some time, connected and breathing—in sync. We were one. We were more than just Mason and Harmony. We were everything.
There, seared into his right shoulder, the skin a deep, ugly red and scarred over was the brand of Hallow Ranch. Then, as tears filled my eyes and rage burned in my blood, I knew I was in love with Mason Langston.
“Hallow Ranch is being threatened by a pipeline—Moonie Pipelines Incorporated, to be specific. Your brother has been trying to contact you for a while now, and you’ve been silent—” “There’s a fucking reason for that,” I spat, anger lacing my voice.
“Tell me about your day, baby. Don’t leave anything out,” he ordered. “Did your ride go well?” I asked, pulling out of the parking lot. “Harmony,”
“Oh yeah? Because that’s your usual hangout spot?” “Well, yeah, where else am I going to meet a tall, dark, and handsome vampire?”
“One thousand, five hundred and two,”
“Mason,” I breathed, the distance between us hitting harder than before. Today was Friday. One more week down, and only two more to go. “That’s how many times I have to kiss you when I get home.”
“Mase,” I pleaded, my voice thick. “Talk to me,” he demanded harshly. “I—I don’t know what happened,” I admitted, tears stinging my eyes. “Put Cabe on the phone,” he ordered. “Mase—”
“Darlin’, now isn’t the time to push me,” he growled. “Put Cabe on the phone.” My eyes closed as I whispered, “Okay.” A moment of silence passed before he whispered, “Gonna take care of you, baby. Put him on the phone for me.”
Two weeks of pretending to be normal, ignoring the inevitable truth. He’d found me. As that truth slammed into me, another truth followed. I never escaped.
“I never really escaped him, did I?” My voice cracked. “Don’t,” she warned, her voice shaking. “Don’t you go there. You stay with me. You went there today, didn’t you?” I nodded. “I’m calling her, Harm. Right now.”
“I’m such a fucking burden. Everyone is always cleaning up my messes, waiting around with a mop and bucket.”
“You listen to me, and you listen good, Harmony Green. You will never be a burden to me. You get me? Not to me, not to Cabe, not to—” “—Mason?”
“Fuck, I don’t know how he can be so patient with me. Do you know that when he is around me, I can’t seem to keep my emotions in check? Nashville was supposed to be a fun trip, and I ruined it.”
“Why? Because you two were adults and had an actual conversation after he fucked you dizzy on...

“I’m not a burden.” The front door opened, and Cabe called out for us. “In the bedroom!” Billie called back, her eyes never leaving mine. Neither of us moved until Cabe appeared in the doorway. He looked at me, his jaw tight, his eyes alert. “Pack a bag, sweetheart.”
“Why?” I croaked, sitting up and reaching for my bottle. “Your bull rider’s orders. Grab your guitar, too.”
“I can’t tell you that, Mason. That’s not my story to tell. B and I made a promise to Harmony years ago,” he stated.
“Harmony can’t stay there. That fucker knows she lives there,” I declared, my voice dangerously low. “I agree. She can stay with—” “She stays under my roof. Nowhere else.”
“Mason, she’s okay,” Eddie said, drawing me out of my head. I shook my head, ripping my leather vest off. “I wasn’t there. She was in danger, and I wasn’t there.” “Mas—” Anger took over, rumbling like thunder as I whirled on him. “I wasn’t there!” I roared. “My girl was fucking cornered—nearly assaulted, Ed, while I was halfway across the fucking world!”
“Mason,” Eddie said, shaking his head. “What you’re doing, what you’re feeling—that’s being there for Harmony. You basically moved her into your condo and hired a security detail for her. At the drop of a hat, bud. You did that.” “I need to get back to the hotel,” I
“Harmony,” I growled. “I’m not in the mood for this shit.” “Mase, I don’t—” “Had the longest day ever, being thousands of miles away from you when you needed me. Let. Me. See. You.” Silence. “Now,”
“This is why I wanted to just have a regular call, Mase.” “Look at me,”
“Goddammit, I want to see my favorite shade of blue, darlin’.”
“Let me see you. Please, Harmony....

“There’s my little song.” “You didn’t have to do this. I could’ve stayed with Billie and Cabe,” she whispered. “You mine?”
“I want you.” No response. “Let me answer that question for you then, Harmony,” I growled. “You’re mine. You’ve been mine. You’ll always be mine. I protect what’s mine.”
“That’s right.” She sighed. “I’m sorry. I just…” “I know, baby. Remember what I said in Nashville?”
“I remember everything about Nashville, sweetie,” she murmured, her words piercing my chest. Sweetie.
