“You can feel mine, Celeste, because my reckless soul has decided it belongs with yours.” The air darkened as his wings curled around our bodies. “Ta yot neshahadzaleh, levsheh.” His fingertips danced up the length of my spine, then back down, before wrapping delicately around my waist. “You are my soulhalf, sweetheart.”
“And demon-spawn? Why in the worlds would you think I’d call you demon-spawn?” “Might’ve been your tone.” He cocked an eyebrow. “My tone?” “Yes. You have an unrivaled way of biting my head off.”
“To think you’re a little mine now.” His neck bowed. “I am more than a little yours, levsheh.” “You’re also Naya’s and Elysium’s.” “Not in the same way.”
“Are you putting off heading back to my place because you’re scared, or are you really that determined to feed me?” “Scared?” “Of what’ll happen behind closed doors and drawn curtains after two decades of celibacy.” The archangel tipped me a slow smile. “If anyone should be frightened, it should be you, levsheh. You’re about to lead a famished man into your bed.”
“You’re sparkling, Celeste.” “Just making sure your gaze doesn’t stray.” His thumb dipped under the hem of my jacket and settled on the indent of my waist. “You don’t need to smolder me to make certain of that.”
His fingers slid open, and I threaded mine through. “Drink your coffee, levsheh. We have a world to change.” We . . .
Asher held out his hand; I didn’t take it. “Let me get Naya’s approval first.” “You do realize you already have it?” My heart ticked a little faster. “Has anyone ever told you how tiresomely confident you are?”
He scooped her up. “Good morning, motasheh.” She strangled him with her arms and rested her cheek against his shoulder. “It is now, Apa.” I swore I could hear ovaries dissolve around us. And not just mine, although mine were most definitely fusing with the rest of my gooey soul.
“You finally kissed Apa!” “What?” I squawked, gaze whipping off my wrist. A low chuckle vibrated from Asher. “Why, uh . . .” I toyed with the zipper on my bomber. “Why would you jump to that conclusion?” “Because you love him.” She rolled her huge, all-seeing eyes.
“I thought I was supposed to be getting dressed.” “In a minute.” His voice sounded like it had lost a full octave. He backed me into the bed until my knees bent, and I toppled backward on the cloud-like comforter. Then he knelt between my legs, hooked my knees over his wide shoulders, and kissed me.
“Who’s Jarod, Celeste?” “No one, honey.” “Why does his name make my heart hurt if he’s no one?”
“Twenty years, I’ve been waiting for you, Celeste.” “Since my birth,” I mused. “My soul must’ve felt its other half’s existence.”
