“Don’t go, queen.” “I won’t.” “Stay with me.” “Always.”
“I saw it in his eyes that day in the kitchen. I saw him check out. I know he’s not here anymore. Dad broke Shannon’s lungs, but he broke Joey’s mind and Mam helped him do it.”
“I know I’m all fucked up in the head, but I swear it’s true. I want this baby with you.” And there he was. My Joey. He was still in there.
“I love ya.” He pressed a lingering kiss to my belly. “Both of ye.”
Oh hell to the no. As I witnessed the bitch slap Joey, I couldn’t see beyond the haze of red blinding me. “Hey! Don’t call my boyfriend a scumbag.”
“Joey, please,” she sobbed, clinging to me just the same as always. “What about me?” What about her? What about Tadhg? What about Ollie? What about Sean? What about Darren? “What about me?” I broke down and cried. “What about me, Shannon? What about me!”
“My Joey.” His body twitched. “My baby.” His body shook harder. That’s it. Follow my voice. “Come back to me.”

“You were always the only one. My one. In the good times and the bad. I swear to Christ…”
“Get better and come back for me… For your family.” Looking shattered, he stared at me for the longest moment before nodding. “I’ll come back for you. For both of you.” And then he was gone.
Being with her was like breathing. I didn’t know I needed the air, but I knew that I would die without it.
“Maybe before they moved on, someone wanted to make sure his first love had a fighting chance with her first love.”
“I wanted to physically harm him,” I said, brow furrowed in confusion. “How does that mean I passed anything?” “Did you harm him?” “In my head.” “In your head is acceptable.”
“I’m not your boy.” “And I already told you that we’re keeping you.” She chuckled. “Finders keepers, Joey love. You’re mine now.” Jesus.
when all three had thrown themselves on top of me—which wouldn’t have been a problem if it wasn’t for the big overgrown blond bastard who had decided to get in on the action.
“So, where’s your other half?” “Claire-Bear? She’s in the year below us.” “No, asshole. Kav.” “Oh!” Gibsie laughed. “Oh, you mean my other other half.
My son had a father because of her, and whenever the shit hit the fan for her, because it would hit the fan, then she would have my backing.
I wasn’t sure about soul mates, but if they existed, then my nephew’s parents were a prime example. Joey Lynch and Aoife Molloy: both full of flaws and humanly imperfect and yet so undeniably perfect for each other.
