“I fucking love you, Aoife Molloy,”
He was terrified of us becoming his parents and had taken drastic measures to stop that from happening. To protect me.
“Oh, Jesus.” The blond lad’s silvery-gray eyes lit up with what I could only describe as playful mischief when he chuckled and asked, “Are we about to have a turf war?”
“You’re thinking I’m a horrible snake to even consider going there with another girl’s fella, but you have no idea what’s really going on,” she mumbled, red-faced. “It’s really, really complicated. And messy.” She exhaled a ragged breath before muttering, “And a million other things.”
“Look at that boy. He’s clearly besotted with her, and she’s staring at him all gooey-eyed like he hung the moon.”
Completely in sync with each other’s bodies and with their entire focus on the other, they laughed and danced it out to the beat, uncaring that a huge portion of their schoolmates were watching them.
“You’re honestly trying to tell me that those two aren’t in love?” “I never said they weren’t in love.” Chuckling, she added, “Only that they’re not together.”
You’re the only person on this planet I do love!”
While the rest of his friends had long since abandoned their girlfriends and dates, Gibsie hadn’t taken more than three steps away from Claire all night.
Our eyes met, green on green, and he winked at me from across the room. And just like that, I was ruined.
“Well, that’s bad fucking luck on my account, because you sure as shit own me!”
My life was unpredictable, and my future was bleak, but I had no doubts that wherever I ended up, this girl would forever have a hold over me.
Because every part of me loved every part of her. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I fucking reveled in all of it. She had my heart in knots and my head spinning.
“It’s you,” he repeated gruffly, fingers tightening on my waist. “I pick you. Every single time.”
all I could think about was if I didn’t get you away from me, I would end up destroying my world, because that’s what you are to me, Aoife. You’re my whole goddamn world wrapped up in one girl.
“I’m not your mother or your sister. I’m not another girl who needs something from you. I’m the girl who wholeheartedly wants you. I’m the girl who wholeheartedly loves you. The hurler. The mechanic. The boy. The protector. The asshole. The lover. The addict.” Sniffling, I added, “All of your versions. All of your shapes and colors. I accept them all. So, I don’t care how fucked up in the head you get, or how bad of an idea you decide you are for me. If you can’t be with me, warts and all, then walk away now, because I won’t go through this again with you.”
I didn’t shift into defense mode either, because something deep inside of me recognized her as an ally. My teammate. It had never happened before. Not with a single other human on this planet.
I wasn’t going to get hurt this time. Because Aoife Molloy was not going to harm me. It had taken me six long years to accept that. When she told me that she loved me, she meant it, and it was as unsettling as it was addictive, because if she only felt a fifth for me of what I felt for her, then I was one lucky son of a bitch.
“Ride or die, Joe.”
Her lips crashed against mine, and it was in this very moment that I knew I would never be able to untangle myself from this girl. Not in this lifetime.
“You’re already mine,” he told me, reaching a hand between my legs to thumb my clit. “Every inch of you.”
He had one hand balled into a fist at his side, while the other hand hung limply around his brother’s waist. Protecting him even in sleep.
She thought she was the weakest link in the family chain, when it couldn’t be further from the truth. My sister was titanium.
was that he offered unconditional love and fealty to a woman who would never deserve it.
“You call and I come running,” he told them in a gruff tone, but his eyes were locked on mine as he spoke. “Every time.”
No wonder he would rather throw himself into traffic than have a child, I thought. He already has four.
They were both quiet for a long moment before Joey snatched my hand up. “Christ,” he muttered, pressing a kiss to my knuckles. “I love you.”
The boy’s attention quickly sparked to life at the sound of Shannon’s name, and I watched the fog dissipate from his steel-blue eyes.
“I won’t hurt her, Joey.” The sincerity in his voice and the vulnerable look in his eyes assured me that not only was my sister’s heart on the line here, but so was his.
As I bantered back and forth with the strange one, I watched as Kavanagh fussed over my sister, and I had to admit that he was the first person I had ever seen put a genuine smile on her face.
“Loving your son is effortless,” I cut her off by saying, pushing my damp hair out of my eyes. “It’s getting him to love himself that’s the hard part.”
“God loves a trier,” Casey agreed, eyes dancing with mischief. “But Aoife loves Joey.”
That poor boy never stood a chance with you, did he? Not when everything he’s never been given flows from you like a waterfall.”
“I was high as a kite that night, and I mean, I can sort of remember it happening,” I admitted, cracking my knuckles together. “But I don’t remember how or why it happened.”
See this is so disgusting. And Danielle is a goddamn rapist all the time she got with him while he was high out of his mind and not actually able to consent. Someone GET HER TO JAIL
“No. You don’t get it. You are the love of my life,” I bit out, catching his chin and forcing him to look at me. “What I feel for you? How deeply I love you? It’s fucking insane, Joe. So, yeah, I’m going to do the right thing for you every time, whether that pisses you off or not, because I want you here with me. On planet earth. For a long time.”
Blowing out a frustrated growl, I turned on my heel and walked toward the P.E. hall but only managed to make it about five steps before swinging back around. Goddammit to hell! I could hear Rambo and the lads cracking up with laughter and making the mandatory whipped sound as I trailed after my girlfriend like a fucking puppy. Jesus Christ. When I caught up with her at the door, she didn’t look behind her when she slid her bag off her shoulder and held it out. Jaw clenched, I begrudgingly took her bag and slung it over my shoulder.
Don’t even think about pretending that you don’t care. It’s yours and you care. She’s yours and you care. It does matter and you do care.
“I swear,” Joey replied, tone laced with sincerity. “I won’t leave you alone in this.”
“Then that’s all you need to say,” I sobbed, nuzzling his cheek with mine. “Because that’s all I need to know.”
“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you in this life, Molloy. Nothing.”
“It’s like I have this whole other person in my head, a whole other voice, even though I know it’s me. It’s my voice, but it’s a destructive fucking voice that rears its head every time I’m stressed.”
“And I know being loved is a foreign concept to you, but it doesn’t come with strings or conditions. It’s unconditional, Joe.”
And that my heart is inside her.
“I’ve been sold on you since I was twelve years old.”
“She might be having your baby, but she’s still my baby,” he snapped. “She will always be my baby. I would die for her. I would kill for her.
