Our eyes met, green on green, and he winked at me from across the room. And just like that, I was ruined.
Because every part of me loved every part of her. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I fucking reveled in all of it.
“Then let me be very clear about it,” he replied, reaching up to cup the side of my face. “It’s you, Molloy.” He tipped my chin up, forcing me to look at him. “It’s you.”
Because Aoife Molloy was not going to harm me. It had taken me six long years to accept that. When she told me that she loved me, she meant it, and it was as unsettling as it was addictive, because if she only felt a fifth for me of what I felt for her, then I was one lucky son of a bitch.
“Just wanted you to know that you’re someone’s favorite person in the world.”
I had come to the realization that Aoife Molloy had become the single most important person in my world.
“You’re worth believing in, Joe. You are so incredibly worth it all.”
“Don’t ever lose it, Molloy.” “Lose what?” “That spark of fire that makes you so incredibly you,” he replied, tightening his arm around me.
Every day I walked into class, right before my will buckled and I freewheeled into hell, and I sought her out. Still chasing after the girl from the wall. Still wanting her more than I wanted to live.
Because I was in love with him. The boy he used to be. The man he had become. All of his versions. I loved them all.
I spent so long trying to push her away that when I stopped, it was so easy. Being with her was like breathing. I didn’t know I needed the air, but I knew that I would die without it.
“And I already told you that we’re keeping you.” She chuckled. “Finders keepers, Joey love. You’re mine now.”
She watched me and I watched her right back. I wanted to be closer to her than my own skin.
