So this is their life,
“Don’t ask for my permission, Shannon. You don’t need it.”
it was hard to break the habit of a lifetime.

I would much prefer to be alone than to be with people purely because they pitied my circumstances.
“I’m not going anywhere.”

Strong words for a person my age, but I trusted my instincts and my gut.
