“I’m not afraid of loving a boy,” I told her honestly. “I’m afraid of losing myself in one.”
Surrounded by liars and cheats, I couldn’t turn my back for a goddamn second. Exhausted from fighting a war I would never win, and cut open from betrayal, I struggled to rein in my tumultuous thoughts.
You shouldn’t settle for anything less than being in love to the point of madness. The only person that you should be settling for is the person who unsettles you the most. The person who drives you to the brink of suicide because he or she makes you feel so fucking much that you can’t catch your breath or remotely function without them.
She blew out a shaky breath and nodded. “Oh, I’ve been sold on you for a long time now, Joey Lynch.”
“How about I teach you a lesson?” Tadhg said, taking aim at Billy this time. “On how to fight fair.” With that, the little guy rammed the handle of the floor brush into Billy’s face. “And how to not be your brother’s little bitch boy.”
“It’s not a matter of pride here. It’s a matter of laying your cards on the table and proving that I matter to you just as much as you matter to me.”
It wouldn’t matter if I meant the words coming out of my mouth or not; they would explode from my lips like bullets intended to decimate my intended target.
“Because I want to look that bastard in the eyes and show him that you have someone ready and willing to go to war both with you and for you.”
