“I don’t need to make ’em fall, darlin’. They tumble all on their own. Though for you, I might enjoy the chase.”
“Just couldn’t let a wildflower like you get trampled, now could I? This world could do with more delicate things.”
“When I decide I want something,” he continued, his voice dropping an octave, “I don’t just dip my toe in to test the waters. I dive in headfirst. I’m all in, come hell or high water.”
“I can be a very jealous man. When someone’s mine, I can be downright possessive.”
“I don’t know, Laura. He seems dangerous. And I can’t afford to get involved with anyone right now.” Laura leaned in closer. “Sometimes, danger can be exciting. And maybe this is exactly what you need right now, Clover. A little bit of excitement and a whole lot of fun.”
Some guys bought their girls flowers. I’d cut off some guy’s dick and serve it to her on a silver platter.
“I’m going to have you, Wildflower. And there’s nothing you can do to stop me.”
“We can have fun,” I said, my fingers trailing down her stomach. “But don’t fucking tell me it won’t mean anything, Wildflower. You’re my new favorite obsession.”
“I’m not looking for anything serious,” she replied. “Too late,” I murmured.
Wildflowers were resilient. They grew against all odds. And I’d fucking watch her bloom.
“Who hurt you?” he demanded, his voice low.
For in the end, she was my salvation. And I would fight to the very last breath to keep her safe, to keep her close, and to keep her mine. Forever. She just didn’t know it yet.
I looked at her, my heart pounding with the strength of my feelings. “I can’t undo the past, Clover,” I said, my voice heavy with regret. “But I can promise you this—I will spend every day of my life making it up to you, making sure you feel safe, loved, and cherished.”
