I decided instead of looking at race I wanted to look for a more objective measure, which is when I started to focus on not just demographic attributes like gender and race, but also phenotypic attributes, namely the color of someone’s skin. Since face-based gender classification using photos relied on imaging technology, and since skin responds to light, focusing on the color of skin seemed to be a way to be more specific and objective. So, I began looking at ways people have classified skin.
