Some of the elusive aims from the 1960s, like machine translation of one language into another, are now possible for human languages that are available in large volumes online. Large language models (LLMs), the AI systems that power chatbots, are also trained to analyze patterns. Many LLMs are trained on the text available on the internet, which is to say they ingest vast sums of information from a large portion of what has been made public online.
