I imagined AJL becoming a network of individuals from different backgrounds working together to uncover what ailed artificial intelligence so we could create better systems that prevented harms instead of perpetuating them. While we were at it, I wanted to maintain a playful attitude that kept the work inviting to outsiders and helped me go through the grind of day-to-day research. The work ahead would be tedious, but the results could transform the trajectory of AI.
