This wasn't supposed to be a red wedding, but I'm going to kill one of my top men today.
Your family owes me a bride and you will be mine." Fucking mine. I like the sound of that too damn much.
My sense of safety in his presence vanishes. He is showing me that when it comes to a choice between my well-being and keeping up appearances, I will lose.
I am nothing to him but a means to an end. I am his wife to protect his pride, not because he craves me like I crave him.
He stops moving again and grimaces. "Are you clean?" "I showered this morning." Why does he care about my bathing habits right now?
"First off, if I had a boyfriend, don't you think I would have mentioned that before I agreed to marry you? Secondly, where would I meet this mythical creature? In my back yard?"
"I did not mean to insult you." "Don't try. You've got it locked down without any effort."
"Sure, I'm so pathetic and sex starved, I've been to bed with at least a half a dozen of my father's men, even though most of them are almost as old as he is. I guess I have daddy issues. They taught me everything I know, so you can thank them later."
Newsflash, he didn't. Broken bones mend. Words leave wounds that don't heal. You've just flayed me with his whip. Congratulations."
If I can know him like this, after such a short time, and he's about as revealing as a smoke bomb, why doesn't he know me better? I opened a vein for him and it's like he just stepped right through the blood without noticing.
"I'd say that you're too short, but that would be a lie. You are perfect as you are. My pocket Venus."
